Naturalization and Citizenship

Naturalization is the process through which a foreign national or citizen may apply to become become a citizen of the United States. Generally speaking an individual must have been a U.S. permanent resident for at least five years before she is eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship, or for three years if she has been married to a U.S. citizen for that time. There are some important exceptions and additional requirements regarding U.S. residence and physical presence.
